kiwi released in Raetihi forest
These 2 brilliant 3 month old birds were released today into forestry a few minutes from our backpackers in Raetihi. The eggs were removed from the nest at about 60 days and taken to Rotorua to hatch and grow to a stage where the birds can defend themselves against predators. Then they come back home. The first half of the video is a talk fro Warren Oates who co-ordinates the project and then we go into the bush and let the brother and sister kiwi out.
Amazing to be a part of. Please donate if you can. Options are at the end of the clip. Cheers, mike and Lucy at the Raetihi International Airport and backpackers
